Santa Tecla, small town festival

Santa Tecla festivities in Sitges, known affectionately as "Petita," are celebrated in honor of the town's patron saint, Santa Tecla. They take place approximately a month after the festivities of Sant Bartomeu (August 23).

The program of the Santa Tecla festivities in Sitges offers daily events for people of all ages and interests. The activities cater to different profiles of visitors.

For those interested in Catalan and Sitges traditions, there are castellera exhibitions in Plaça de l’Ajuntament and Cap de la Vila. Meeting the Pubilla and Hereu, the festival kings and queens, always creates great excitement among the locals.

Fans of musical folklore also have the opportunity to explore the musical genres of the region. This includes sardana dances, a staple of Petita and the Santa Tecla festivities in Sitges. Additionally, there will be a gralla concert featuring the comical group Les Gitanes. Another interesting musical proposal is the organ concert at the parish of Sant Bartomeu i Santa Tecla.

Children are likely the luckiest during the Santa Tecla festivities in Sitges, as there are numerous activities tailored for them in the official program. These include a gathering of giants and big-heads in Plaça de l’Ajuntament, the Ball Parlat de Diables in Pont d’en Domenech (which involves reciting satirical verses about village life), and a hot chocolate event at Palau del Rei Moro. The most significant event for children is the Alegre Matinal on the 23rd, starting at 6:30 AM, featuring children's correfocs and giant dances.

Special mention goes to the fireworks displays, likely the most important and impactful of the year in Sitges. If visitors wish to explore the city's museums, there is a day for free admission, part of their special Open Doors Day.

The official program of the Santa Tecla festivities in Sitges 2019 can be consulted on the city's tourism website. It provides a day-by-day overview of all planned events, including information about schedules, locations, and ticket prices if applicable. You can also request information upon arrival at the tourist information office, located next to the train station.

Regarding accommodation, Hotel Calipolis provides easy access to all scheduled events, as it is very close to the parish of Sant Bartomeu i Santa Tecla.
