1. Environment (contribution to sustainable development)
At Hotel Calipolis, we have a strong commitment to environmental preservation.
As part of the ongoing process of improving CO2 emissions reduction and natural resource preservation, actions are taken in various areas:
• Water management:
With the objectives of reducing water consumption and preventing wastage, specific faucets have been installed. The need to avoid waste is reminded and promoted with written recommendations in multiple languages for customers in all bathrooms.
• Electricity consumption reduction:
Thanks to the use of new technologies (LED) in lighting and investments made in machinery with high energy efficiency, a 50% reduction in electricity consumption per room has been achieved in the last five years.
We have 237 photovoltaic panels that help us reduce the annual electricity consumption by 15%.
• Waste management:
All waste generated by the hotel is properly treated separately for better classification by the municipal collection company.
• Eco-friendly cleaning materials:
Biodegradable materials with a neutral effect on the environment are used in cleaning rooms, restaurants, kitchens, halls, and common areas.
• Investments:
A significant portion of the investments made in the last decade has been focused on improving energy efficiency and reducing consumption:
o Use of LEDs in most spaces.
o Air conditioning machinery renewal. 2015
o Replacement of refrigerators and freezers. 2016
o Installation of air conditioning systems from 2015 to the present.
• Additional actions
o Reduction of electricity and fuel consumption for hot water.
o Use of stationery materials with minimal or no chlorine contribution.
2. Safety
Every decision aims to guarantee the safety of workers, customers, users, and suppliers.
• Food:
All our kitchen and service workers have a food handler's card and continuously receive updates on the training obtained in this regard.
We indicate which foods may contain allergens and what type. Additionally, we have menus suitable for different types of allergies.
• Amenities:
Concerned about the dermatological effects on our customers and employees, all gels and soaps offered in our amenities and available in the bathrooms are made with natural and hypoallergenic components.
• Workplace safety:
We apply courses and specific training measures to maintain the highest safety at work and invest in safety measures.
• Fire safety regulations:
The hotel follows a maintenance and update program for facilities to fire protection regulations, ensuring maximum safety for employees and customers.
3. Social Action
MF ROVIRALTA FOUNDATION
A significant portion (almost half, 50%) of the profits generated by Hotel Calipolis are reinvested in the Maria Francisca de Roviralta Foundation, which dedicates the funds generated to charitable purposes in Spain and countries in need around the world.
PATRICIA and CARLOS MULLER FOUNDATION
Another significant part of the profits is collected by the Patricia and Carlos Muller Foundation, which aims to provide economic assistance to elderly people in precarious or needy situations and to young people who do not have resources for their education. Additionally, it seeks to collaborate with hospitals and charitable institutions with similar purposes.
FORMACIÓ i TREBALL FOUNDATION
The hotel contracts laundry services to the Formació i Treball foundation, whose mission is to facilitate access to the labor market for people at risk of social exclusion.
COLLABORATION AGREEMENTS
Hotel Calipolis maintains collaboration agreements with the Exit Foundation for the employment integration of young people at risk of social exclusion through the Coach Project and with the Formació i Treball Foundation of Caritas for the employment integration of young people through internships in the establishment itself.
4. Employees
• Ongoing training:
We consider it a priority for our employees to be aware of and familiar with new trends, regulations, procedures, and processes. For this, they receive continuous training through courses in specific areas such as office automation, electrical installations, languages, knowledge of the territory, marketing product commercialization, and benefits of marketing and social networks, in addition to mandatory courses in food handling, water and waste treatments, and others.
• Equality:
At Hotel Calipolis, we ensure equal opportunities for all workers, from our selection processes to our promotion and professional development models. For this reason, in 2023 we have developed and implemented a gender equality plan between women and men.
• Internship program:
Experience counts, and we are always willing to share it. In a very positive collaboration, internship programs have been signed with various hospitality schools and universities in Catalonia.
• Internal communication.
There is an internal communication system in the company through department meetings, notice boards, and weekly follow-up meetings that are transparent to all workers.
5. Compliance
ITSA HOTEL CALIPOLIS, S.A. has approved a set of procedures and best practices adopted by organizations to identify and classify the operational and legal risks they face and establish internal mechanisms for prevention, management, control, and reaction to them, with a special focus on the six criminal types that could be committed with less difficulty.
In addition to the Compliance manual, there is a whistleblower channel made available to employees, suppliers, and customers at the email address compliance@hotelcalipolis.com so that they can report any illegal or unethical behavior that has taken place in the company.
