Although the summer and winter months are the quintessential holiday periods, autumn can also be an ideal time to enjoy a fantastic weekend getaway to disconnect. Here are some different activities you can do on a weekend escape in October.

Autumn weekend getaway: Why is it a good option?

The month of October, with autumn already in full swing, brings falling leaves, ochre and orange tones, and also the best travel deals at much cheaper prices than during the high season! It’s also the perfect time to take a short break from our busy lives, as it falls between the summer holidays and the Christmas festivities.

If you’re someone who likes to take a weekend getaway in October before the cold winter arrives, these months have a lot to offer you. In Sitges, you’ll find a wide range of events, activities, and festivals throughout the month: music and film festivals, traditional celebrations, art exhibitions, food events, and visits to the cultural and architectural heritage of the town, among many others. There's something for everyone!

During your stay in this beautiful modernist town, you can enjoy everything from an autumn stroll on the golden sand beaches, to a walk through the Garraf Natural Park, or you can join all the scheduled events for October, which are numerous.

October is full of activities in Sitges. We start with the Harvest Festival (October 19-20), with a traditional program: wine tastings, pressing of the first must, offering at the church, the Harvest proclamation, grape stomping contest, and “habaneras” music, among others.

We also have cultural events like the Art, Collecting, and Museums Market Day (October 18), an activity aimed at deepening the study of art collecting in Catalonia. The event takes place in the town of Sitges, home to one of the most significant buildings in the history of art collecting in our country: the Palau Maricel.

Fans of popular and traditional culture can experience the Castellers de Sitges' Colla Jove Day (October 19), a day where this local group of castellers will offer an exciting demonstration of human towers and “castells.”

You can't miss the Open House 48h, the most important architecture festival in the metropolitan area of Barcelona. The festival is free and takes place one weekend a year, in October. With the aim of showing that architecture has no borders, the program extends throughout Barcelona and the metropolitan region.
