The Malvasia Interpretation Centre of Sitges (CIM) is much more than a museum: it’s a sensory and cultural journey through the history, landscape and identity of Sitges, all through its most genuine wine — the Malvasia de Sitges. Located in the historic Corral de la Vila, an 18th-century livestock building, this centre offers a unique wine tourism experience that celebrates local winemaking tradition.
A story with soul
Legend has it that Malvasia arrived in Sitges in the 14th century, thanks to a wounded almogavar who was healed by this medicinal wine in Greece. Whether true or myth, this variety has deeply shaped the town’s history, even reaching European royal courts and turning Sitges into a wine reference internationally.
Thanks to the Llopis Legacy, a 1935 donation by Sitges-born diplomat Manuel Llopis, we can still enjoy Malvasia today. He donated his vineyards and winery to the Sant Joan Baptista Hospital, securing the future of this winemaking treasure.
Heritage and wine in perfect harmony
The CIM is part of the old modernist hospital complex in Sitges, an institution with over 700 years of history that today offers elderly care while promoting culture and wine through this centre.
The visit takes you from the medieval origins of Malvasia to its current place in Catalonia’s wine scene — through audiovisuals, heritage items and, of course, tastings.
The wine tourism experience
There are several visit options at the CIM:
Self-guided visit (€5): tour the museum rooms at your own pace and finish with a wine tasting.
Deering Visit (€10): guided tour through the hospital and CIM, with tasting included.
Llegat Llopis Visit (€20): the most complete experience, with a guided tour, tasting and snacks — ideal for the curious.
And don’t miss La Malvaseria, an on-site wine bar with over 30 local and international Malvasia references — perfect for a gourmet break in a unique setting.

A surprising urban vineyard
Just five minutes from Sitges’ centre, inside the grounds of the old Sant Joan Baptista Hospital, lies a rare treasure: an urban vineyard that withstands time and city growth. One of the few left in Catalonia, it bridges Sitges’ viticultural past with its cosmopolitan present.
Walking among the vines, surrounded by urban architecture with the Mediterranean in the background, is a unique experience. It invites you to imagine life in Sitges centuries ago and to reflect on the value of preserving cultural and natural heritage in urban spaces. This vineyard is no relic — it’s still productive and part of the Celler de l’Hospital’s wine production.
Strolling here is like opening a window to Sitges’ story — where tradition, sustainability and wine tourism come together in the heart of the town.
